What Are The Factors That Led To The Rise of Early Childhood Care and Education?
Remember that early childhood care and education focus on children whose ages are between 0-8 years, hence some factors necessitated the rise of early childhood care and education.
Firstly, early childhood care and education, also known as ECCE, is important because it focuses on a period of rich brain development for children, and when it is most needed, and can also help them attain and develop their potential. ECCE lays the foundation for good health and nutrition, learning and educational success, as well as social and emotional learning throughout their lives.
Some of the factors that gave rise to early childhood care and education are;
Universality
Universality is a concept that was popularised by Martin Luther who believed that education should be universal and made it a point to emphasize that education strengthened the family as well as the community. Luther believed that children should be educated to read independently so that they could have access to the Bible. This meant that teaching children how to read at an early age would be a strong benefit to society.
Sensory exploration
This concept believes that learning for children is rooted in the sensory exploration carried out by children. It is a concept established by John Amos Comenius.
Environment
This is another concept that gave rise to early childhood care and education. The environment factor believes that children’s environment fills their metaphorical slate. It was popularised by John Locke.
Other factors include observation, social-cultural position, social competence, etc.
Challenges of Child Trafficking Enforcement in Nigeria
Child trafficking which deals with the exploitation, illegal procuring, and relocating of children mainly for sexual misconduct, exploitation, and labor, continues to remain a challenge in combating in Nigeria.
According to a study, human trafficking is a crime with low risk and very high profits and it violates the basic human rights of victims. It is a complex and difficult issue to tackle.
The magnitude and extent of human trafficking in Nigeria whereunder estimated until recently when publications were made in electronic and print media. So many factors have encouraged this menace in our society. Internal trafficking was fuelled by urbanization and economic crises. Families in rural areas gave out their children to more fortunate members of their families to take to cities.
Over time, the desperation and ignorance of these rural families were exploited by the urban settlers. In the last two decades, there has been an increase in the internal trafficking of Nigerian women and children, especially from rural communities to cities.
Here are some of the challenges of child trafficking enforcement in Nigeria
With my degree in Bachelor in early childhood education and care here are the challenges facing child trafficking enforcement in Nigeria.
Poverty
Poverty is a serious issue, especially in Africa where many live beyond a dollar stipend daily. In Nigeria, there have been cases where parents send their children abroad because they have heard of the fortunes available in Europe and other Western countries for a better life, without knowing that their children have been trafficked either for prostitution or labor.
Lack of education
Due to the lack of education and lack of exposure, many have fallen victim to child trafficking. So, no matter how hard the government tries to reduce child trafficking in Nigeria because the people remain uneducated, they will continue to sell themselves and their children to trafficking.
Gender Inequality
One of the key challenges in enforcing child trafficking in Nigeria includes gender inequality. This means one gender is preferred more than the other. This is a common problem in Africa, where the male child is considered to be more important than the female child. As a result of this inequality, most female children are sold to child traffickers as slaves or sexual objects.
Lack of cooperation
Not cooperating with the agencies in charge of fighting child trafficking in Nigeria, is one of the challenges existing today. Child trafficking can be reduced when people cooperate with the agencies saddled with this responsibility by providing useful information on child trafficking.
Globalization
Globalization allows traffickers to set up complex routes and systems within and across borders. The presence of these complex channels creates a challenge because it is understood that prosecuting one trafficker may only minimally hinder the network of traffickers.
